WITH ANASTASSIA TETREL, 14, 15, 17 AND 18 JANUARY
This 4-day workshop is an opportunity to try your hand at etching and to make intaglio prints of your design. You will be working on copper plates, onto which your design will be etched in acid in order to obtain a plate from which you can then make prints. Etching allows you to achieve very fine and precise details in your design, and practising this technique will lead you to see the works of James Ensor through different eyes. A vital element to consider when developing the preliminary drawing for your project is the management of grey values. The precision and delicacy of the lines will inspire you to seek out details and to develop hatching, textures and motifs that will enrich the final work. You will see at first hand the variations in the “states” due to the inking and printing by hand. The possibility of reprinting over time, of producing a multiple image, brings us closer to the perennial and popular dimension that James Ensor sought in this technique.
