Around 1970 – long after their forefathers Van Gogh and Monticelli had bestowed metaphorical radiance upon the sun of Modernism – the paths of a venerable Picasso, a young Polke, a boundless Joan Mitchell, a pharaonic Sun Ra and many more crossed in the evening sun of the Mediterranean, at a far remove from the world’s potent art centres and in defiant, electrifying reference to their ideas and movements.

Hot Sun, Late Sun takes a close, current look at singular approaches of ten artists, representing a time span of some 150 years.

ADOLPHE MONTICELLI, VINCENT VAN GOGH, PABLO PICASSO,
SIGMAR POLKE, GIORGIO DE CHIRICO, GERMAINE RICHIER,
