Painter and sculptor Georg Baselitz was born in 1938 in East Germany and today lives and works in Munich. He participated in the renewal of the discourse on painting and its methods after the Second World War and maintains a critical and innovative relationship with art history, trying to link his oeuvre to the movements sidelined by the war. From very early on he chose to invert his images, in a gesture that was both iconoclastic and poetic.
