BIOGRAPHY

Wato Tsereteli

Wato Tsereteli studied film in Tbilisi and obtained an Master of Arts from the Department of Photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He works in digital and time-based media, as well as in painting, drawing and three-dimensional media. He curated the international art exhibition Appendix in 2013, in addition to multiple exhibitions and projects in and outside Georgia. In 2010 Tsereteli established the Center of Contemporary Art Tbilisi, a travelling institution that occupies abandoned spaces and transforms them into urban creative recreational zones, serving as an educational, research and exhibition platform for artists and art professionals. In 2012 he initiated the Tbilisi Triennial— a long-term project focused on education and research. The 1st Tbilisi Triennial titled Offside Effect hosted thirteen independent art schools from around the world, and the 2nd titled SOS Self-Organized Systems reflected on various forms and strategies of self-organization and self-initiative. The 3rd Tbilisi Triennial, The Will, was dedicated to ephemeral phenomenon.
