Nighttime invites us to venture toward those who transgress the rules of propriety…
In 1888, Vincent van Gogh wrote in Arles: “It tempts me so much — not the drink, but painting ruffians.”
Breaking away from established norms, he opened a breach.

The exhibition “SUSPECTS – Van Gogh, Tricksters & Co.” follows in this vein: it is dedicated to artists who have chosen dissidence over conformity, excess over restraint, through nearly 120 works — paintings, photographs, installations, and videos — imbued with irony, provocation, and the absurd.

33 artists, from Pablo Picasso to Cindy Sherman, including Bruce Nauman, Maurizio Cattelan, and Nina Childress, shift our perspective, challenge convictions, and explode conventions.

What is a “trickster”? 🤡
A cunning, disruptive figure drawn from myth and folklore who, like a clown, plays with rules and subverts the established order.
