WITH EMMANUELLE LUCIANI AND CHARLOTTE COSSON

Within the framework of La Vie simple – Simplement la vie / Songs of Alienation, art historians Charlotte Cosson and Emmanuelle Luciani will examine visions and fantasies of rusticity and peasant life.

Starting with the art of the French Revolution and of socialism as preached by Proudhon and Leroux, they will dissect the close links between Paris and the provinces from political and social points of view. Through the works of Van Gogh, santon figurines, the Macchiaioli movement and the Provençal School, they will trace the successive representations of a social class in the process of vanishing – and whose disappearance can be sensed in its awareness of the advent of the era of the machine and progress.

Charlotte Cosson and Emmanuelle Luciani are exhibition curators and art historians. Most recently, they organized COOL – As a State of Mind at MAMO (Marseille), From Transhuman to South Perspectives at Rowing (London) and Pré-capital, formes rustiques et populaires dans l’art contemporain at Panacée (Montpellier) with Nicolas Bourriaud.

They are editors-in-chief of CODE South Way magazine, devoted to emerging art.
