Bertrand Lavier was born in 1949 in Châtillon-sur-Seine. He lives and works in Paris and in Aignay-le-Duc (Côte-d’Or). His work has been shown in many cultural institutions such as the Villa Médicis in Roma, the Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Consortium in Dijon and the Castello di Rivoli in Turin. In France, the Centre Pompidou and the Musée d’art moderne in Saint-Étienne both held solo shows of his work, in 2012 and 2011 respectively. In 2013, he produced the entrance gate of the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles, nothing less than a street picture which identifies the institution at first glance.
