Throughout the year, Bice Curiger invites prominent figures from the world of the arts to talk about an aspect of the life and work of Vincent van Gogh that holds particular meaning for them.

The Garden at Auvers

A canvas by Van Gogh whose authenticity was challenged when it came up for auction became the object of law suits and lively debates. In 1998 it was sent by the judges to the Musées de France Research Laboratory for an expert opinion. Physicists, chemists and art historians all pooled their expertise in a scientific analysis of the canvas which – with the aid of a particle accelerator and macro photographs of the brushwork – was able to shed light on the artist’s technique and creative process.

A graduate of the École des Beaux-arts and the École du Louvre, Danièle Giraudy has pursued her career in numerous French museums, including the Musée Picasso in Antibes, the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris and museums in Marseille. A General French Heritage Curator, she specializes in modern art, art education and museology.
